Potato gratin recipe

Also known as pommes dauphinoise, this is a classic French side dish for a dinner party.

Ingredients:

  • Potatoes
  • Milk
  • Cream
  • Nutmeg
  • Garlic
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Parmesan

Instructions:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 200 degrees C
  2. Thinly slice potatoes and place in pot
  3. Add milk to just cover potatoes
  4. Chop 2 cloves garlic and add to pot
  5. Add freshly ground pepper and salt
  6. Add freshly ground nutmeg (about 1/2 a nut)
  7. Place a lid on the pot and bring to a boil
  8. Reduce heat to low after it comes to a boil for 10 min
  9. Use slotted spoon to place potatoes in oven dish
  10. Pour in milk mixture, about 1 layer below the top
  11. Add a bit of cream
  12. Grate fresh Parmesan over the top and place in oven for 30 min
