Three-and-a-half months ago, I posted an excerpt of my lunch cookbook – Vicky Hampton’s Working Lunch – on crowd-funding book publication website TenPages. Thanks to €10,000 from 205 generous investors, I met my investment target late last night! As the last 10% of shares were sold off in a flurry of last-minute of buying activity, it all felt rather momentous and exciting…
I first had the idea for the book a few years ago when making lunch in my tiny, ill-equipped office kitchen near the Leiseplein. My colleagues got jealous and, before I knew it, I was making lunch for my whole team. A year or so after that, I wrote all the lunch recipes down, added some more that I’d come up with in the meantime, and went about trying to find a publisher…
After a few false starts (and when I say a few, we’re talking another year and a half), I came across TenPages via a friend of a friend who was in the process of crowd-funding his first novel at the time. Together with my design partner – stylist Andrea Ibargutxi – and with the help of a photographer friend, we decided to put together an excerpt of the book and see if we could kick-start the publication process that way.
