Cheese or chocolate? The great debate starts here…

Ever had one of those ‘if you had to give up x or y, which would it be?’ conversations? Sex or alcohol? TV or Internet? Or, if you’re a foodie, fruit or vegetables? Fish or meat? Chocolate or cheese? The latter seems to provoke the most debate, largely because (I presume) they’re just about two of the most addictive things you can put in your mouth…

Most girls I know would do pretty much anything to guarantee their next chocolate fix. But not me. Maybe it’s something to do with the fact that sweets and chocolate were never ‘treat’ food in my house. Or maybe it’s because I get more than enough sugar from my wine habit. Or I could just blame my parents: my Dad systematically ploughed his way through a couple of hundred grams of cheese-topped Carr’s water biscuits after every meal. And old habits die hard. Whatever the reason, life without cheese strikes me as barely worth living.

A trip to the French Alps, I can assure those of you who are alpine virgins, is pretty much a cheese lover’s heaven. Chevre salad and paninis for lunch, fondue and raclette for dinner: these are a few cheese-related highlights of my Morzine holiday.

So, cheese or chocolate: which would you choose?
